Ovulation induction with the help of injections
Infertility has resulted in creating lots of troubles for
the couples around the world whilst looking forward to realizing their
“parenthood” dreams. Moreover, most of these couples have looked forward to treatments
like IVF, IUI and so on in order to chase their dreams of having a child and
while they do that, they have to go through a list of diagnosis and medications
during the whole process. Ovulation induction is one of such treatments that
brought certain medicines into picture in order to increase the number of eggs
produced by the ovaries in order to create better chances of Pregnancy.
Ovulation induction
in IVF (In Vitro fertilization)
When a person goes through the IVF treatment, she usually
gets injected by several inject able gonadotropins (Gonal-F, Follistim,
Bravelle, Menopur) in order to stimulate the ovaries and make them produce and
mature more eggs in the whole treatment process. Gonadotropins are a category
of hormones which are secreted by the pituitary glands and once it is been
observed that the female body are not secreting enough gonadotropins.
When they get into the human body in injection form, they went
on to stimulate the ovaries to produce more eggs and overcoming the natural
tendency of the ovaries to produce only a single mature egg within a natural
cycle. A Daily dose of gonadotropins for 7-10 days is then brought in use in
order to take care of the ovulation problems whilst producing more one egg.
Gonadotropin ovulation induction treatment cycle is also been known as Controlled
Ovarian Hyperstimulation (COH), and require proper monitoring of the ovaries
and blood hormone levels on a daily basis.
Side effects of
Ovulation induction
Ovulation induction Apart
from its benefits, there are also certain side effects attached to it. Women
which are pregnant or suspected of carrying health issues like cancer, or large
ovarian cysts must not be injected with injectable gonadotropins. On the other
side, multiple births (20% of pregnancies following COH cycles) and ovarian hyper
stimulation syndrome are one of the other complications out of this whole
process. Whilst multiple births would be a possibility, there are chances of
triplets, quadruplets to be born out in the process. OHSS can be termed as a
serious medical condition for the ovaries which may get over-responsive by
gonadotropins, and may result in the accumulation of cysts and fluid
accumulation in the abdomen part and lungs. The condition can prove fatal if
not treated on time and you really need the help of a reproductive specialist
in order to get the same treated.
